NEW MOLECULAR TEST OFFERED FOR THROMBOTIC TENDENCY
The Molecular Genetics Laboratory at University Hospital at Stony
Brook is pleased to announce the availability of a test for the
prothrombin gene 20210A mutation. This mutation is located in the 3'
untranslated region of the gene and is an important risk factor for
venous thrombosis in general in the Caucasian population. In a recent
study by Kapur et al. (1), 19% of subjects with a history of venous
thrombosis had the 20210 G to A mutation compared to 2% of control
subjects.

Specimen requirements: One lavender top tube. No refrigeration is
necessary. A consent form signed by the patient must be included to
comply with New York State regulations.
The cost of the test is $125 and the turnaround time is 14 days. The
test can be ordered individually ($125) or together with Factor V
Leiden ($225 for both assays when performed on the same specimen).
Please contact our laboratory at 631-444-3747 or FAX 631-444-3419 for
more information.
